Early Cave Art May Not Be of Human Origin

This is one of the most interesting arguments in favor of the “humanity” of our old friends the Neanderthals!

Famous Cave Paintings Might Not Be From Humans

by  (NPR)

“The famous paintings on the walls of caves in Europe mark the beginning of figurative art and a great leap forward for human culture.

But now a novel method of determining the age of some of those cave paintings questions their provenance. Not that they’re fakes — only that it might not have been modern humans who made them.

The first European cave paintings are thought to have been made over 30,000 years ago. Most depict animals and hunters. Some of the eeriest are stencils of human hands, apparently made by blowing a spray of pigment over a hand held up to a wall.

But now scientists are suggesting those aren’t human hands, at least in some caves in Spain…”

According to a new theory, time may be running out.

A new theory suggests that one day in the distant future time could actually run out and the entire universe would grind to a halt. This terrifies me! One of the things about Buddhist thought that I enjoy is the idea that everything changes. What is happening right now will absolutely change. This is a great comfort to me in hard times. But what if this is entirely and profoundly not the case at all?

Get your science geek on: Time could disappear

by Steven Hodson

“I have the greatest admiration for people who can think about things so far out there and yet make them seem totally plausible. Scientists are excellent at this and prove it once more with the notion that – according to a new theory – time may literally be running; and could one day vanish altogether.

The concept is based on string theory ideas which allow dimensions of space and time to swap places. The overall theory belongs to Professor Jose Senovilla, at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao, Spain. It is a theory that goes counter to the prevailing “dark energy” theory which physicists purpose as being the force that is driving galaxies apart.

Professor Senovilla on the other hand suggests there is no such thing as dark energy. Instead, he says we have been fooled into thinking the expansion of the universe is accelerating because time itself is slowing down…”
