Lily L. Diamond is a writer, musician, singer, doctor of Chinese medicine, intuitive, healer, and teacher. On her blog, in the post The Colors of Love, Lily discusses dream meaning – she is one of the most qualified dream interpreters around. I was lucky to have a chance to speak with her recently about a very troubling and vivid dream. I’ll spare you the details of my dream (nightmare!), but I’ll share the wisdom I received:

• Pay attention to the locations on the body that appear in the dream. Dreams are messages from the unconscious that can point out emotional issues, as well as very real and specific physical issues.
• Remember that even negative experiences and feelings have a flip side: They always come with a “gift” – find out what gift your dream is delivering to you – even if the dream is very frightening or negative. Ask your dream images what they are offering.
• If you are having trouble with the form of the message, ask the message to come in another form. You have the power to do this. It’s YOUR dream! It’s YOUR psyche!
• If the meaning alludes you, ask the images in your dream to explain themselves. Write down what comes to mind and you may be surprised.

I took Lily’s advice, even though it was not comfortable for me to do so. The message in this particular dream took the form of something of which I am very phobic. It took concentration and resolve to even want to revisit this dream long enough to ask it questions! But, I knew that I needed to distill the images – boiling them down to their true meanings – in order to figure out the important message that my own mind wanted me to understand. The advice above helped me to do this and I think I’ve found that “gift” Lily was talking about!
