Long-lost Lovecraft manuscript penned for Houdini found

The man who brought us Cthulhu wrote a book for the man known to escape everything. But if you want to read the unfinished work, it’s going to cost you.

“Nothing could be more exciting to fans of legendary horror author H.P. Lovecraft than the discovery of a rare manuscript in a defunct magic shop’s collection.

But it gets better. “The Cancer of Superstition,” written by Lovecraft in 1926, was commissioned by magician Harry Houdini. A Houdini memorabilia collector found the book and is selling it to the public.

Anyone who wants to read the 31 typewritten pages for themselves can buy the work as part of a Houdini lot from Potter & Potter Auctions in Chicago on April 9.

Previously, most Lovecraft and Houdini scholars believed the book might exist only in outline form since the work was suspended soon after Houdini’s death in October of 1926.

The famous magician’s widow, Beatrice, did not want to pursue the completion of the work after his death…”

“Taxi drivers in Japan say they’ve picked up ghosts of victims of the 2011 tsunami.

At least seven drivers claim passengers have entered their vehicle only to vanish into thin air before they reach their destination.

One driver described a young woman dressed in a coat climbing into his cab near Ishinomaki Station and telling him: “Please go to the Minamihama (district).”

In response, the driver noted that the area was “almost empty,” and asked her if she was sure she wanted to go there, reported the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

The woman replied in a trembling voice: “Have I died?”

When the driver turned around to look at her, no one was there…”

Well, some of the more iconic images from the discovery have been colorized by Dynamichrome for the exhibition The Discovery of King Tut which opens in New York City at Premier Exhibitions on November 21, 2015.

I’m normally not a fan of colorized photos, but these are different for some reason. They’re almost like Dorothy leaving her B&W Kansas and stepping into Oz for the first time or the doors opening up to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Glorious eye candy…”
