An incredible 27-hour operation to let a girl born with EIGHT LIMBS lead a normal life was last night hailed a success.

More than 30 surgeons were involved in the intricate procedure to remove two extra arms and another pair of legs from two-year-old Lakshmi Tatma.

Afterwards jubilant chief surgeon Sharan Patil said in Bangalore, India: “The operation worked wonderfully well – beyond our expectations.”

Lakshmi was worshipped by superstitious villagers after being born joined at the pelvis to a “parasitic” twin, that had stopped developing in their mother’s womb.

Her father Shambu and mother Poonam named their daughter after the Hindu goddess of love and wealth – who is traditionally depicted with four arms and up to four legs.

Poonam said: “I believe Lakshmi is a miracle, a reincarnation.

…Lakshmi was born in Rampur Kodar Katti, a tiny village in the state of Bihar on the Nepalese border.

Villagers worshipped her and rural folk trekked from miles around to pay homage.

Children born with deformities in deeply traditional rural areas of India are often viewed as reincarnated gods.

Dad Shambu confirmed: “Everyone considered her a goddess in our village.”…
